Glenfarclas is one of the only truly independent old school Scotch distilleries still producing a truly old school whisky.
Family run by the Grant family since 1865, the sixth generation is now at the helm, running things much the same way as it always has been.
Producing just a small fraction of what many of their big Speyside neighbors do, they use only traditional direct fire distillation and age full term in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks, which lends all their whiskies a distinctive burnt caramel character along with classic sherried notes of sharp spice, nutty richness, Christmas cake, and dried fruits.
The 21 year bottling is an incredibly rounded whisky. The nose is intense, full of aromas - sherried fruit, tropical fruit, nutmeg and almonds with slight citrus notes at the end. Flavor is full bodied rich and rounded, develops slowly into fruity and spicy flavors. Finish is long-lasting and smooth with a chocolate feel at the back of your throat.
